Loving relationship. That’s how I feel about social media, even though I didn’t always feel this way.
I intentionally did things to make social media work for me instead of the other way around. It truly serves me because I’ve completely curated it specifically to me so much that I love having it in my life.
I’ve made it a place for me to go when I feel like seeing beauty, inspiration, humanity, and realness. (I look within myself for all of that, too. ♥️) That’s what I see now on social media since I’ve cut out the noise, irrelevance, fakeness, bullshit, generic cliches, and mediocre blah.
There’s so much bullshit on social media, yet there’s also so much good on social media. Once I figured out how to curate my feeds, found who + what I liked and wanted to see, and only went on when I felt like it, so much got better for me.
That’s one of the best things about social media. You get to see what you want to see. You have control over what you see in your social media feeds. I’m starting to see what I want here on Substack because I’ve done it on TikTok.
All platforms are the same in that you can curate your feeds for you and only you. I just thought only of myself and what I wanted.
I asked myself what I wanted to see when I got on TikTok. I asked myself what I was using Instagram for. I asked myself what YouTube has that could benefit me. I asked myself why I wanted to post on Substack. I asked myself what Pinterest could do for me.
Those are the platforms I use, and I use each of them in different ways. Some not for business. Some just for business. Some for a mix of both.
I also have Twitter, but I’m going to delete it because I’m getting nothing from it. Yeah, it really is that simple.
If or when you no longer feel excited or even want to go on a certain platform, just don’t. You don’t have to. You don’t need to. I promise. I don’t use things that don’t benefit me or that I have no need for or want.
Really, though. Think about it. You know everyone (including you and I) thinks about themselves. So, what do you truly need? What do you really want?
Instagram felt so blah, fake, forced, has way too many irrelevant features for my liking, and did not feel good or necessary for me to post on there. So, I only use it to follow people and accounts I want to follow who aren’t active on TikTok or aren’t on TikTok at all. I don’t use Pinterest as my vision, inspiration, or beautiful things board. That’s what Instagram is for me. (Not for business).
I use Pinterest in an SEO way for my lifestyle brand + community. I think of Pinterest as a search engine. I take By Sophia Lee’s Perfecting Blogging and Perfecting Pinterest courses. Those are two of the courses I’m most grateful for. I always say to find someone who has done or is doing something you want to do and learn from them. That’s what this is for me regarding my blog of my lifestyle brand + community. (For business).
Moving on to YouTube. I think of YouTube as a search engine, too. By now, everyone knows that YouTube is valuable. There’s literally everything on there, so I definitely have narrowed it down and make the absolute most of it.
Whatever topic I want to know about (breathwork, manifestation, meditation, film, self improvement, creativity, art, novels, lifestyle, EFT, etc.), YouTube has my back. I’m also using YouTube for my books and movies brand + community. The potential of it all! Yes. Coming soon. (A mix of both).
TikTok is similar to YouTube, but is so much more fun. I could go on and on about TikTok because I love and appreciate it so, so much. It’s my fucking favorite, by far. Everything is on TikTok, and I truly feel that the best is there.
I follow such an incredible, beautiful variety on there. It’s so vast, and my For You Page is phenomenal. I actually have three different TikTok accounts (for my lifestyle brand + community, for my writing and art, for my movies and books brand + community), but I’m only active on one of my accounts right now. That will change though. (Mix of both).
TikTok is THE social media platform that if you don’t have it, you’re tremendously missing out. My opinion.
I’m not exaggerating when I tell you that TikTok changed my life for the better. When I recently thought about how TikTok has changed my life in a short period of time, I was inspired to create another TikTok account (for real) just sharing my personal growth. Oh, yay! That’s coming. ✨
Also, the most genuine people are on there. Realest of the real, and it’s hard to put into words how freeing and refreshing that is. How much I was craving that. Deeply. Don’t worry, TikTok isn’t going anywhere. 😉
I’m starting to slowly, but surely, feel about Substack how I feel about TikTok. It’s only a matter of time before it gets there. ♥️
I wanted to talk about social media because I feel like so many people let it run them, depend on it, and feel pressure + discouragement from it.
People post on there because they really think they need to. They don’t post on there because they truly want to. How is that going to work out? It’s not and never, ever does work out. Been there. Done that. I’m looking at you, Instagram.
I’m so relieved and glad that I realized it doesn’t have to be that way with social media. I make it what I want it to be for me.
If only people would sit down with themselves and ask themselves why they want to use social media in their lives if they have decided to and how it can benefit them, curate their feeds, and make it work for them in whichever ways they intentionally choose to use it, they would see it differently. So much differently.
Sometimes, people post on social media when they don’t even want to because they feel pressure to after listening to the bullshit that they need it to succeed in their business. No. I do it my way, and that never leads me astray.
I listen to my soul. I use multiple platforms simultaneously for different purposes. I hope you do what you want to do for you.
Instead of listening to all of the endless plethora of coaches, experts, entrepreneurs, writers, artists, etc., I started listening to myself. Ultimately, I am my own muse. My creativity has never been better. That’s priceless to me.
So, I use social media for me with purpose and intention.
It’s always there for me.
